Drop Dead Healthy - A "mini-review"

This is my second post as part of the summer reading club for Quirky Bookworm, so you can disregard if you're not interested. But if you are interested this book was hilarious and informative! Drop Dead Healthy by A.J. Jacobs is a memoir chronicling the author's attempt to become the healthiest man alive. He takes you on a journey through two years of his life, month by month, and the changes he makes in his quest to be healthy. I have not laughed out loud this many times while reading a book in a long while. I fell in love with the way Jacobs was informational and funny at the same time. While not intended as any kind of health guide or how-to, I did learn a few health facts as well as gain some knowledge about a couple of crazy fads out there along the way. I am usually intimidated by non-fiction because I don't know what to read, but this was definitely a great step into NF for me! I definitely recommend. :)

Pardonable Lies - A "mini' review

In this post I will be writing my first ever book review as part of a summer reading club for my favorite book blog, Quirky Bookworm, written by the fabulous Jessica. Check it out when you have some time!

Pardonable Lies is the third book in the Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear. I was unsure how I would like the book because my somewhat Type A personality likes to read a series from the beginning, but I took a shot. The setting is post WW1 England (and France) and follows "psychologist and investigator" Maisie Dobbs as she seeks the truth surrounding the presumed death of a British aviator during the war. The case soon becomes intertwined with another as Maisie makes a promise to also investigate the wartime death of the brother of her closest friend. As the investigation deepens it becomes clear that finding the truth may come at a costly price for Maisie as she is forced to face her own unsettled past. I definitely enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading more in this series. Maisie is a complex and intriguing character, and I felt that Winspear did a pretty good job of weaving together several story lines without making it too predictable. Overall, I give it a thumbs up! :)

*sniff, sniff* Only 30 days left until we have an official school-attending child in our home. In order to get our minds prepared, Addie and I made a countdown chain. She gets to tear off one link everyday until school starts!
